Trend Spotting: The Belted Blazer

January 20, 2010

A trend I am loving now, one that is perfect for winter and transitional dressing, is the belted blazer.  It’s a great way to add something unexpected and stay away from the “business-y” blazer stigma.

To get this look, pull out a tweed (winter) or linen (spring) blazer and pair it with a SKINNY muted belt. Button up or wrap the blazer and cinch it in at the waist.

While the weather is cool, the belted blazer looks great with skinny fit trousers, pencil skirt or even a pair of denim. Accessorize with a scarf tied around the neck or a big, floppy hat.

When the weather turns warm, the belted blazer can be layered over a simple tee and tailored shorts, and to keep things chic, pair it with some classic pumps.

My way to wear it? Channel Annie Hall and Chloe’s Fall ’09 Runway, pairing my tweed Zara blazer over some vintage military-sque shorts, a black and white tartan button-up blouse, warm wooly black tights and my wooden platform ankle boots.
