Making a Statement: Necklace Art

April 1, 2010

A statement necklace doesn’t have to be just one piece that was picked up at an expensive boutique. The best statements are usually a mix of everything – Grandma’s jewelry, costume pieces, and rare finds from vintage shops.

The way to pull off these looks is to think outside the box. Pull out all your jewelry and start putting them together in strange and wonderful ways! Start with the short pieces and then add the longer pieces.

If you don’t have a jewelry treasure trove to pull from, start looking for some key pieces: a vintage rhinestone necklace, some gold and silver chain options, a few pendants and pearl strands. Most of these can be found at a local antique, vintage or thrift store, or if you don’t want to dig there are great reproductions at Bloomingdales, Forever 21 and Target!

Don’t over think it, just go with your gut.
