What Work Looks Like

November 30, 2010

(Jacket, Blouse and Trousers: Thrifted Vintage, Pumps – Cynthia Rowley via TJMaxx)

The Thanksgiving holiday is over and that means it is back to work.

My work takes place in many locations – I could be at home in my office, at a client’s home and closet, on a photoshoot or out shopping. Wherever I am.. I always dress up – dressing up gives me inspiration and motivation to do my absolute best no matter what the task.

So, today dressing up meant wearing my new tweed blazer with black lapels.. and after the cropped trousers and bowtie blouse were in place.. I slipped on the yummiest Cynthia Rowley Pumps (picked up at TJMaxx.. I guess I am a Maxxinista now!).

Now.. there is work to be done.

I love this as a work look. The tweed blazer with the suede pumps just scream Fall. I also love that the cropped pants make the look fun and modern.

the fit of the blazer is great, too — do you have any blazer alteration tips? i have a vintage one that’s just a little tooooo boxy.

Almost daily, I’m in a situation where my contemporaries wear sweats without care, but dressing up really does make you feel better. On campus, I’ve become known as the girl who always wears high heels, even to people I’ve never met, but heels are just another way for me to feel confident enough to command a classroom when necessary. I wish more people would take a page out of your professionally dressed book.

p.s. I love the art on your wall! Glassless frames with 3D objects in them is a wonderful idea.

Thanks for your sweet comments Chelsea.. I love that you are known on campus as the “heels girl”!

I will be the first to admit, I am not one who wears vintage clothing…I love it on others, feel like I am trying to be someone else when I do it…….But I really adore how you make your vintage finds look so FRESH and RELEVANT. Been stopping in for a few weeks now and find each outfit post to be more beautiful than the next.

I saw these shoes in Marshall’s. I almost bought them but realized I had too many black heels. Now I regret that decision and of course they are gone:(

I love the prim and proper look of this ensemble.
