Kohl’s Chaps Capris and A Giveaway

April 5, 2011

"Kohls Chaps Capris"
"Kohls Chaps Capris"

(Turban and Blouse – Thrifted, Jacket – Elsewhere Vintage, Chaps Capris – Kohl’s, Shades – Urban Outfitters, Shoes – Steve Madden)

I absolutely love mixing prints… so when I was asked to be part of Kohl’s Chaps Capri campaign .. I was instantly drawn to a black and white checkered pair.

The Chaps Capri is essential and classic for spring, and I loved the idea of styling them up with bold pops of color and prints.

All styled up.. they were ready for a day down by the bay.. walking cobblestone streets, sipping coffee with my man and watching the sailboats glide by.. spring day perfection!

Now for some fun..

Kohl‘s is gifting two of my readers with $125 gift cards.. all you have to do is leave a comment below..

something you want to see in the future.. a question for me.. or a little blurb of happiness!

Contest ends Friday, April 8th at 3 PM EST

How long does it take you to pick out your outfits for a post? Do you mainly get inspired looking through your closet or before you even get in there?

    • April 5, 2011 7:44 am

It is different everyday.. sometimes 2 minutes sometimes 30 minutes. Also, inspiration is different everyday.. I might go in my closet and be inspired by a certain piece or an image I saw earlier or a color or a movie.. it is always different.

Thank you for your daily doses of inspiration!

I always love your pattern mixing – really inspiring to just go for it! Do you have any suggestions on where to get scarves to wear in your hair – are vintage/thrift shopps the best place for that?

    • April 5, 2011 7:42 am

Yes.. vintage and thrift always have a great collection of scarves in all shapes, lengths and sizes.

Loving you’re twist on the preppy cropped trouser look. I heart mixing prints! And you do it oh so well.

Question – Current fav. clothing item, shoe & bag in you’re spring closet?

Mine is heavenly PJ style all over floral print palazzo pants (similar to yours a few posts back might I add), a new MJ satchel type bag I picked up in Hong Kong, all grainy, butter soft leather and metal trims and STILL my black lace up clog boots. Spring is finally starting to come to London but my toes are staying firmly under wraps for now but still looking divine enclosed in my wooden soled beauties!

Thanks for the always fresh and inspiring daily updates.

The power of the flower. And gorgeous flowers they are. That blouse looks amazing, love the color and the big print. 23. April 5, 2011 6:50 am

Wow, you’ve actually made me want a pair of gingham capris! They look amazing on you!

How much of your wardrobe do you purchase “new” and how much of it is second-hand (thrift or vintage)?

    • April 5, 2011 7:39 am

Honestly, my wardrobe is probably 80% vintage/resale/thrifted and 20% new.

  24. April 5, 2011 6:50 am

Ob-sessed with this look… it has my mind racing with ideas of how to style a similar outfit. I am now on the hunt for those capris or a similar pair via a thrift store. You style everything to perfection. 🙂

First of all-I love your style-it’s so varied, yet so clearly you. It’s pushing me to find my own signature style and then push the boundaries. I’ve also gone shopping at vintage and thrift stores and actually found things that I love and have incorporated into my closet. I’d be interested in seeing something like a vintage/thrift problem solving post-like, how much can you do if you find something you love, but it’s stained somewhere. Or what’s the best way to get rid of that lingering thrift store smell? What are things that can easily be fixed with a good tailor? Also, will the Stylit ever be available to purchase again? Thanks for the inspiration!

have just begun following your blog, but would love to see some tutorials and/or tips on how to repurpose items that one might have in their closet that seem to have lost their relevance… like ways to dress up a plain summer dress or new ways to use accessories or something? or maybe even simple tweaks to plain items to make them more stylish?

    Desiderata
    by Max Ehrmann

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for on the face of all aridity
and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass,
Take kindly to counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering
    the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune,
But do not distress yourself with imaginings, many fears are
    born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
    You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees or stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is
    unfolding as it should.
    Therefore, be at peace with
God, whatever you conceive him to be,
And whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life,
    keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams
It is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful, strive to be happy.

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.
Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

…one of my favorite quotes from Kahlil Gibran’s the Prophet. Wanted to share a little beautiful passage on love!

Hope you’re going well B.Jones! Send a little sunshine to Boston, ok? 🙂

  225. April 6, 2011 6:28 am

Absolutely love this combination! Most of us would shy away from wearing a print like that since we think it should only go with a solid color top. But I love how you added the floral print blouse! Those shoes look very comfortable, are they?

I adore capris! They’re perfect for warm weather while managing to leave something to the imagination. I hope to pick up a few pairs for weekend bike rides around the city.

It’s seasonal items like these that make it easier to pack away all my lovely sweaters and winter coats. It’s going to be a wonderful spring! 🙂

I love the outfit, thanks for the inspiration.

  233. April 6, 2011 9:47 am

Yay! Sign me up! I love Kohl’s! The best part of this post is the I’ve held on to a pair of capri’s that look EXACTLY like this for the last 6-7 years, knowing I wanted to wear them again. I just couldn’t figure out how to style them and make them modern. THANK YOU!!

  234. April 6, 2011 10:01 am

You styled this perfectly, but I wouldn’t expect anything other than that from you. 🙂
I recently tried on a similar pair of pants at J. Crew and they were all kinds of not good. I think the length of these pants (and how you styled it) made the print less picnic table and more pulled together.

This is a great giveaway. I would definitely put it to good use, especially in the Vera Wang and Lauren Conrad sections.

I’m a first time commenter and a long, long time reader/lurker. Since you just posted a retrospective of pictures from when you were in between blogs, I want to ask: have you ever considered putting together a best of retrospective for your old blog? I love your new blog, but it makes me sad that your new fans can’t really see how you transformed yourself since you started your first blog with the intention of using it as a platform to start your own vintage store. It’s been inspiring for me to see how your hopes and dreams have evolved over time and I’m sure your new fans would like to see that, too.

    Keep up the good work!
